Jim Strain, club president, gives a weekly report of happenings at the railroad.
Many thanks to Kate Hardt who put together a fabulous meeting & dinner at Pietro's in Fenton. The food was great and the room was very nice. Kate had only a month to get this set up as the Salad Bowl canceled on us at the last minute.
We were very fortunate to have a number of out of town members make the trek to St. Louis. Don & Esther Miller came from California, Herold& Louise Wind came from Chicago, Joe Slezinger also from Chicago & Greg Wapelhorst from Jackson Mississippi. It was good to see everyone especially those we only get to see occasionally. The attendance for the meeting & dinner was over 50, an excellent turnout.
The Annual elections provided a new face on the Board of Governors. Steve Marx was newly elected to a two year term. Congratulations to Steve. Mike Lorance & Kary Eckrich were re-elected to two year terms. Jim Greathouse chose not to run again for the seat he held on the Board for the last 6 years. Many thanks to Jim for his dedicated service on the Board during those years.
Sunday's work crew consisted of Welch, Bitsch, Lorance, Marx, J & J Scott, Ernst & DeBellis. Projects for the day included finishing ties on track #0 and then uncovering the culvert pipe under Grand Ave. to do wiring work as well as the continued work on the flat cars.
Wednesday the 25th saw Errante, Geders, Tabernacki, Lorance, Welch, Scott, Don Miller & Smith busy at Glencoe. The machine shop crew was working on 5205's new trucks, Tabernacki finished 400's cross head upper rail repair, Lorance & Welch cut up the downed tree and Don Miller visiting from California helping out wherever he could.
Welcome to Carey Williams who lives in the Chicago area and owns a 12" gauge Ottaway locomotive. Carey has contacted us as to the possibility of his running the locomotive on the WF&P for members day in June. I've attached a photo he provided. It's a very nice looking locomotive. He had it running at Ken Coates' meet in 2005.
