Jim Strain, club president, gives a weekly report of happenings at the railroad.

Photos attached are of the new crew seats on the brake end of the flat cars. They sit higher than the regular passenger seats giving the brakeman & conductor a better view of the passengers thanks to J & J Scott; Bob H. & Bob T. installing the crosshead on 400; the 171 which Joe Geders has taken on the project of cosmetically restoring 171 for shows, parades and displaying on operating days, last is a photo of one of the newly painted signals on the station tracks 1 & 2.

The weather was great today (Wednesday). Jimmy Scott, Mohen & Brennan painted the first coat on the station fence. The yellow fence looks great and I will have photos of it for next week. Lorance & Welch finished replacing the head blocks and switch stand for the yard entrance switch. Scotty, Owens, Foster & Tabernacki got 400 back on the rails today and well as changing the coupler height on 5205. The new trucks caused 5205 to sit higher which raised the couplers.

Saturday saw Tabernacki, Lawson, Geders, Hardt, Mohen, J & J Scott, Bitsch, Welch & myself at Glencoe. Geders & Lawson began working on 171. 400's right crosshead was installed while Mohen, Scott & I did some finishing touches to the flat cars. This Saturday Scotty plans to grease the cars then steam clean the trucks & wheels before the season starts. The 3 mainline switches that Hank has worked on are very close to being finished with new head blocks & high switch stands that don't require one to bend over and lift. The St. Louis Live-Steamers group was out again Saturday disassembling their track and hauling it to their new home in Eureka.
