Jim Strain, club president, gives a weekly report of happenings at the railroad.
Thanks to Paul Konopacki for the attached photos from Sunday's successful first revenue run on 928 and many thanks to Steve Haack for getting the 928 in running condition. Steve's done a super job & while there are some minor problems to be ironed out it's a great looking & operating locomotive.
We wish a quick recovery to John Errante who had surgery on Monday to help him recover some of the use of his legs which he's had chronic problems with for many years. John was very instrumental in the 928 construction also as he did much of the machine work & planning for the running gear, cylinders & suspension.
Sunday was very hot with about 350 passengers which included the annual local Lionel club barbeque. By 3pm we were down to one train in operation and the 928 led the 4:15 train doubleheaded with the 535 (operated by Neubie) along with a half dozen paying passengers and many more WF&P members.
We also should never forget our Wednesday & Saturday work crews. July 12th saw Tabernacki, Brennan, Foster, Keaton, Lorance, Lawson & Scott. Thanks to all who give up an extra day or two per week to keep the WF&P moving.
I heard from Steve Davis & Tim Jacobs in Decatur. They said the work on mogul #7 continues. Piston rings are now installed and they have begun assembling the boiler jacket.
