Various members give a report of happenings at the railroad.

David Neubauer reported that "Big Red" has been sold and will be leaving Granite City shortly for Mount Vernon, IL.  It will be "frame" for a new Gen Set loco. 

Rich Owings is in Poland and as of Wednesday, February 6th Rich had accumulated 300 miles running 6 trips of 50 miles each either firing or running steam locomotives up to 50 mph between Wolystin (Volshtin) and Posnan. This is mainly standard guage, but some 30 inch gauge running also.

Rolling Stock: Superintendent Jim Scott
All seven steel flats have had the springs replaced. Next will be to grease all the trucks and then turn all the cars 180° to prevent continual wear on the flanges.

Motive Power: Superintendent Bob Tabernacki
Bob Hardt worked on mounting 5205’s Kohler engine on new 3/8 plate and reviewed the work to be done to 534’s boiler.

Machine Shop: Superintendent John Errante
John Errante is making new bushings for 401’s left side valve gear. Mike Lorance finished turning 535’s tender wheels. (this is # 300's original tender built by V.A. Schmidt between 1953 to 1958.)

Maintenance Of Way: Superintendent Hank Welch
Hank Welch, Wayne Mosbacher, John Bell and two of Tony Benz's sons put in 58 ties. Two carloads of ballast were hand loaded & spread by Mike Lorance, Hunter DeBellis, and Wayne Mosbacher.

Tony Benz and Dale worked on the trenching operations. They loaded one car of Refuse Ballast (RB)

Rolling Stock: Superintendent Jim Scott
Jim Scott , Jim Greathouse, and Bob Tabernacki, placed the refurbished trucks back under the 535 tender then placed the # 51 caboose on the trailer to be hauled to the upcoming train show in Collinsville this weekend.,

Bob Tabernacki worked with both; Malachi Owens who was there in the afternoon working on the 535 and Jerry Fritschle on the 928.

Maintenance Of Way: Superintendent Hank Welch
Hank Welch, Mike Lorance, and David Neubauer hauled 8 lengths of rail from the rail pile to Track 10. Then they hauled 4 other lengths of rail out to the end of track and spliced same. They unloaded the car of RB at the Wye. Then some surveying was conducted checking gradients.

HELP!!!! The WF&P will have two tables and the Caboose at the train show in Collinsville, IL on Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16. This is always a good time to talk with the public and invite then out to ride. If you can help either day please call Jim Greathouse at 314-977-3568 during the week day.

We will also have the Caboose at the Eureka Transportation Day on Saturday morning, April 19, from 9-11. We will not be selling anything just handing out brochures.
