Various members give a report of happenings at the railroad.

Saturday, March 29:

Boy Scout troop came out again to assist where needed. Various items, removed before the flood, were hauled back to their respective departments by the Boy Scouts along with members Clayton Cullen, Bob Hardt, Kary Eckrich, Bob Tabernacki, Jim Strain and David Neubauer.

Car barn: Superintendent Scott
John Rush’s Bobcat, operated by Hank Welch, hauled the old 16" gauge frame of the 401's tender to the back of the car barn for possible use by the Car Department.

Roundhouse: Superintendent Tabernacki
Bob Tabernacki and Bob Hardt finished shims for 5205’s Kohler engine to align engine and hydraulic pump shafts for flexible direct connection – eliminating chain drive.

Machine Shop: Superintendent Errante
Boy Scouts helped move content of machinist tool box back into the machine shop. Re-installed by Kary Eckrich. Ralph Voelpel was out morning helping put items back in their proper place.

Building & Grounds: Superintendent Lorance
Hank Welch, Wayne Mosbacher, Dale Bitsch, Clayton Cullen, David Neubauer, Mike Brennan, and Don Connor (with 7 year old son Don) maneuvered the Brown Road MOW shelter back into a position.  More work will have to be at this location later.  Found a whole plastic keg of spikes for extension.

Wayne Mosbacher, David Neubauer, Don Connor and Kary Eckrich cleaned out the Fuel Bunker.  The flood sludge was shoveled out and the bunker was power washed inside.  Wayne started on the inside of the coal bunker.  Yikes.  Eventually the buckets were drained out and re-loaded and placed under the area where the crew picnic bench is normally.

Maintenance of Way: Superintendent Welch
Dale Bitsch cleaned Swampy Creek so it will drain.

After cleaning the bucket of the Bobcat, Hank went to the Glencoe Ballast area pile and loaded two carloads of ballast into the 126 & 127.  As usual the Frisco 51999 derailed putting the cars back.

Signals: Dale Bitsch
Dale and Jim Strain and walked down to the Wye to assess damage.  Along the way, they discussed (among other topics) the potential opportunity to run the signal conduit across the trail at both ends of Bluffs while the trail is closed for repairs.  If it is done now, Richard Love won't have to close the trail later for the conduit to be installed.  Dale showed some signal stuff to Jim Strain.  Dale will determine if time should be spent on this or getting the signal system ready for the season’s opening.

The boys and parents of Cub Scouts Den 6 took rakes and work gloves and walked the entire length of the tracks and cleared them of all leaves and tree limbs possible as well as picking up trash along the way. The Scouts wanted to let us know that they had completed the task and thank us for allowing them to help us and for giving them a community service project. The boys
had a great time!

The WF&P and the Caboose were at the train show in Collinsville, IL on Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16. Who would have thought we would take $800.00 worth of photos and sell $500.00 in hats, whistles and other product. Thank you to all who came out to help at the show.

We will also have the Caboose at the Eureka Transportation Day on Saturday morning, April 19, from 9-11. We will not be selling anything just handing out brochures.
