Motive Power Report - February 03, 2009

#403 is getting a face lift. Andrew Dean has taken on the project. Along with help from Jim Strain, Matt Horn and others it is coming along great, when you see it you will think it is a new addition to the fleet.

#535 - The boiler is still at American Boiler Co. A Ultra Sound was done and found to be in good shape. Now the wait is on the inspector and the final numbers on which it is going to cost.

#400 - After removing the rear truck for rework, the burner was also removed. The findings of some of the firing trouble was found. The burner was in fact plugged up with salt on the atomizer side and a bad leak was found in the valve causing the fuel to reduce (getting air in the fuel line) before the burner. This will be resolved. There will also be some old leaking valves replaced. The front truck is also going to be removed and inspected, reworked and placed back under the locomotive.

#401 - A redesign of the blast pipe in the smoke box is being worked on by Steve Haack to repair the steam leaks under the smoke box. Drivers and front truck is getting some work is being done on cranks and bearings by the roundhouse chief machinist Bob Rands. 401 was found with more problems then we had planned, therefore it will not come out of the house as soon as we hoped.

That's all we have in the works at this time. More reports will come as time progresses. If anyone would like to help please contacted me.

Thanks
Supt. Of Motive Power
