No. 300
WF&P member V.A. Schmidt of Alton, IL built this 4-4-2 "Atlantic" type locomotive in 1958. Originally built as Alton and Southwestern 300, it operated at his home railroad and as a visiting engine at the WF&P for several decades before being bought by the association in the mid 1980's. Atlantic type locomotives were well known for pulling high-speed passenger trains in the early part of the 20th Century. 300 was removed from service in the early 2000's due to the increasing age and wear on the boiler. It is currently undergoing a rebuild, with the boiler off-site for repairs. The oil-burning locomotive is expected to return to service by Summer of 2024.
