One trip, or a whole day, the railroad and surrounding area has much to offer!
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to ride?
Tickets for May through September are $5 per person. Children 3 years old and younger ride for free. We will post our October tickets approximately halfway through the season. We do not sell tickets per car this year, only per person. A passenger car can accommodate approximately 5 people.
ARE YOU HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE?
Handicap accessible cars are also available if needed. Please select “special needs loading access” when booking your ticket, and this will signify to us ahead of time that we need to ensure we keep our most accessible cars open for your reserved time. These enclosed cars have backs on the seats for better stability. Note: Our cars are no big enough to accommodate wheel chairs.
CAN I RESCHEDULE/CANCEL MY TICKET?
You can reschedule or cancel your ticket up until 48 hours prior to your scheduled departure time by clicking the “Change/Cancel Appointment” button in your ticket confirmation email. If you reschedule, no fees will be assessed, and your payment will automatically be applied to your new ticket time. If you cancel, however, you only will receive a partial refund, since our credit card servicer has started charging us a fee in 2023 to refund payments. You will see the payment return to your credit card within 2-3 business days of the refund with a termination fee subtracted to cover the payment processing costs.
In the case that you do not reschedule or cancel at least 48 hours in advance, and you do not show up for your ticketed time, your reservation will be considered a donation to the railroad. We do not provide rescheduling or cancellation services less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled reservation time.

WHAT IF IT RAINS?
For the last 85 years our trains have run rain or shine, and will continue to do so. The vast majority of the ride also takes place through dense tree cover, which provides a natural umbrella. On rainy days, if we are open for operations, we will not provide complimentary rescheduling or cancellations and recommend that riders come prepared with ponchos and/or umbrellas of their own. If we have not suspended operations, any reservation for a rider who chooses not to ride due to weather will be considered a donation to the railroad.
However, in the case of severe weather (hail, lightning, etc.), we will suspend operations to protect our guests. In the event we do suspend operations, we will proactively notify the affected ticket holders and provide them with a promo code for them to obtain complimentary tickets for a later date.

What if i don’t see the date/time i want to reserve?
Unfortunately that means that we are sold out already for that date/time. Check back on the scheduling page, though, because if people reschedule or cancel, the ticket will appear online again.
Do you do birthday parties?
We do! If you would like to book a birthday party, it’s simple: simply reserve how many individual tickets you’d like for that date. There is a picnic area at the edge of the yard; however, we do not reserve this ahead of time and is on a first-come-first-served basis. In the case you’d like to use to use the picnic area, we recommend arriving early in the day (around 10am).
How long is the ride?
The ride lasts approximately 40 minutes and takes you approximately two miles round trip through the beautiful Wildwood wilderness and along the scenic Meramec River.
The Experience
-With open-air cars the ride is a panoramic view of the river side complete with local wildlife, including turtles, deer, squirrels, birds, and more. You may get lucky and spot our friend "Snowflake", the albino deer!
-Our trains are usually pulled by real working steam locomotives, experience an authentic ride behind the steam engines of a bygone era of railroading. Watch and listen to the whistle sing, and the locomotive chug down the line.
-Visit our gift shop for souvenirs, bandanas, engineer hats (Blue and Pink!), t-shirts, coffee mugs, engineer teddy bears, pull-back steam engines, and more!
-Located only a short distance from several local parks and attractions, consider making a day out of your visit to the WF&P and surrounding area.

"My family has been coming here every year for nearly a decade and it is amazing to see the progress they have made. It is enjoyable to ride on the steam trains along the route. I cannot wait until the expansion track is finally complete. It is just amazing what a great set of volunteers have accomplished over the years."

"If you have children who want a different experience outside away from the TV this is a place to take them. I remember going here since I was a small child. I loved every second we spent there. My father had been taking us there since it was first in north county. My favorite part of the journey is the view of the Meramec river from the train. Looking down from the bluff as you ride along is breathtaking. Do yourself and your family a great favor and go. Afterwards have a picnic in one of the near by parks."
